One of the key milestones highlighted by RDC Region VII Chairperson and Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro is the continued enhancement of Bohol’s connectivity through the modernization and strengthened operations of the Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA).
A significant development is the turnover of the airport’s operations and maintenance to Aboitiz InfraCapital Bohol Airport Corp. (ABAC), marking a new chapter in improving airport infrastructure, passenger experience, and operational efficiency while supporting Bohol’s growing role as a premier tourism and investment destination.
The BPIA recorded 2.22 million passenger arrivals in 2025, making it the ninth busiest airport in the Philippines—a strong indicator of the province’s sustained tourism recovery, expanding economic activity, and increasing domestic and international connectivity.
Further reinforcing its gateway status, the airport welcomed its first Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft in November 2025, followed by the arrival of the first direct charter flight from Narita, Japan in May 2026. These milestones open greater opportunities for tourism, trade, and international partnerships while enhancing Bohol’s accessibility to global markets.
Complementing these developments was the successful conduct of BEACON 2026 (Bohol Emergency Airport Coordination Operations Network 2026), a large-scale emergency simulation exercise that strengthened inter-agency coordination and reinforced the airport’s readiness to respond to emergencies.
These milestones support Bohol’s Strategic Change Roadmap by advancing world-class transport infrastructure, strengthening regional and international connectivity, enhancing public safety, and creating greater opportunities for inclusive economic growth and sustainable development across the province, a UNESCO Global Geopark.
