SIKATUNA, BOHOL – April 27, 2025 — Bohol continues to power up its renewable energy momentum with the groundbreaking of the Sikatuna Solar Power Plant, a major project led by Bohol Solar Energy Inc. (BSEI).
This new solar facility follows the recent launch of the 8.4 MWac Tagbilaran-Baclayon Solar Power Plant and further cements the province’s commitment to sustainable development. Situated across barangays Can-agong and Bahay-Bahay in Sikatuna, the 45 MW (37.884 MWac) solar power plant will span an area of 454,636 square meters.
The facility will include 11 major components: a substation and solar plant, photovoltaic (PV) modules area, materials recovery facility, hazardous waste storage area, rainwater and septic tanks, four bunkhouses, a guardhouse, generator set, and a network of roadways — with 3-meter-wide roads covering 22,026 m² and 5-meter-wide roads spanning 14,574 m².
Once operational, the Sikatuna Solar Power Plant is expected to deliver a wide range of benefits, including employment generation, increased local revenue, reduced carbon emissions, enhanced energy security, and contributions to community and agricultural development — especially in powering irrigation systems and farming infrastructure.
The project aligns with Bohol’s Strategic Change Agenda and reinforces its role as the country’s first and only UNESCO Global Geopark, showcasing the province’s proactive stance on climate-resilient development and environmental stewardship.
The groundbreaking ceremony gathered key government and sectoral leaders, including EMB Region VII Director Ma. Victoria Abrera, Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado, Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Handel Lagunay, BSEI representative Atty. Liberato Casila Jr., Sikatuna Mayor Justiniana Ellorimo, Atty. Abel Damalerio on behalf of First District Congressman Edgar Chatto, Board Member Aldner Damalerio, BSEI executives, local officials, and community stakeholders.
