The Provincial Government of Bohol welcomes the In-Island Diesel Power Plant Project of Mapalad Power Corporation under the Alsons Power Group.

The 95.2-megawatt power plant located in Ubay serves as a back-up power generator that is more than capable of electrifying the entire province of Bohol during power supply disruptions and emergencies.

The company’s application for fiscal and non-fiscal incentives under Provincial Ordinance No. 2021-019, otherwise known as the Bohol Economic Development and Investment Code in the Normal, has been approved by the Bohol Investment Board during its meeting last June 10, 2025.

The proponent successfully presented the project to the Bohol Investment Board following a favorable endorsement from the Bohol Investment Board-Evaluation Committee issued last May 27, 2025.

With its approval, the 2-billion project shall be granted a 5-year real property tax exemption, that is the provincial share of 35%.

The development of such a crucial project in the province greatly enhances its resiliency and power self-sufficiency especially during emergencies due to calamities and other unforeseen events, as evident during the past calamities such as the 2013 earthquake and super typhoons Yolanda and Odette where Bohol experienced long-term power outages.

Likewise, the project should provide quality job opportunities in the province and boost economic activity, especially in the town of Ubay.

While the provincial government favors the development of renewable energy sources in the province, this project gained favorable support as it is seen highly essential for the province.

The project uses equipment and technologies that ensures low carbon emission footprint and likewise installed methods that will offset such emissions greatly minimizing environmental impact around the area.

The project has also acquired the necessary permits and licenses from various agencies and assures the public that it shall continually comply with the necessary environmental standards and policies during its operations.

The power plant shall only operate during emergencies caused by islanding activities and assures that Bohol shall receive stable and reliable energy supply enabling it to continue its economic and livelihood activities with no interruptions.
